The main suspect in the murder of an Owensboro convenience store clerk appeared in court Monday. A judge ruled there is probable cause for Brock Hanley to remain in custody in the murder of Suba Singh. As it is a capital charge, Hanley was denied bond and the case will go to a grand jury in December.

Indiana’s budget issues has put a $12 million road widening project in Princeton on hold. The Broadway Street project has stalled because it was not designated as having “high priority” in light of the state’s forecasted $300 million shortfall. The widening of Broadway through Princeton was scheduled to start this year, but now may be pushed back by a decade.

New Harmony Theatre, the Tri-State’s only professional Equity theatre, announces its 2010 season, including summer productions at Murphy Auditorium in New Harmony and bonus spring Repertory Project productions on the University of Southern Indiana campus. The summer season opens on June 11, 2010, with “The School for Scandal.” July’s production will be the Tennessee Williams classic “The Glass Menagerie” with the summer season concluding with the musical “Finian’s Rainbow.” Tickets are available now at the New Harmony Theatre box office.

The search for a man wanted for the murder of a Mount Vernon man continues. Police in Indiana and Missouri have been searching for 39-year-old Lee Kershaw as their primary suspect in the murder of Jon Wayne David since Saturday. The 1988 black Corvette Kershaw was last seen in was discovered Saturday night in New Madrid, Mo and has been sent back to Posey County for processing. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Posey County Dispatch.

Millions in contracts related to the new North high school and middle school complex were awarded Monday night by the EVSC. The 14 contracts total $65 million with over 90% of the contracts awarded to local companies. The largest contract, totaling close to $14.5 million, went to Weddle Brothers for work as general contractors. Almost $13 million will go to Blankenberger Brothers for site work and utilities.

With the football championship on the verge of being decided, the Preseason High School Basketball polls were released Monday.  No area teams made the top 10 in Class 4A. In 3A, defending state champs Princeton is the preseason #1 with the Washington Hatchets at #2. Memorial and Vincennes Lincoln received votes. No area teams broke into the 2A top ten, but Mater Dei and South Knox received votes. In Class A North Daviess is ranked #9 with Vincennes Rivet #10. The girls polls have Memorial ranked #4 in 3A with three votes going to Bosse. North Posey gets a single vote in 2A. With 12 first place votes, Vincennes Rivet takes over the top spot in Class A.

Jamar Smith and Jeron Lewis both had 16 points apiece to lead USI to a 93-73 victory on ESPN 106.7 Monday night. The fans at the PAC Arena saw the Screaming Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season by shooting nearly 60%. You’ll hear Coach Watson’s thoughts on the game and a preview of this weekend’s Bill Joergen Memorial Tournament tonight at 7pm on a special edition of Rodney Watson On Basketball. The show will also be heard on wyfxfm.com.

For the first time, the Downtown Quarterback Club of Evansville's all-city team has two quarterbacks. Grant Gribbins of Memorial and Matt McIntosh of Reitz were both named to the all-city team after leading their teams to Lucas Oil Stadium this coming weekend. In all, Memorial had five players named to the team while Reitz had 10 players. Reitz coach Tony Lewis was awarded coach of the year while Bosse running back Josh Pendleton recieved outstanding player honors. 

The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced the signings of 6’1” forward/center Nicole Hazemi from Lombard, Illinois and 5’6” guard Stephanie Carpenter of Salem, Illinois to national letters of intent for the 2010-11 season. They are the first two to sign with USI Head Coach Rick Stein during the early signing period. USI hosts Lincoln Memorial University tonight at 7 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.

E’Twaun Moore scored 22 points to lead Purdue past Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee Volunteers 73-72 in a battle of top ten teams at the Paradise Jam in the US Virgin Islands. Robbie Hummel added 20 for the 6th ranked Boilermakers. Tennessee had a chance to remain undefeated but center Wayne Chism missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds on the clock. Moore was named tournament MVP.
